Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus were unveiled together at the Mobile World Congress of 2018. Galaxy S9 Plus is all about refining the consumer experience. The outlook of these phones surpassed their predecessors and the customer will have a wider range of colour options to choose from—lilac purple, midnight black, titanium gray, coral blue, sunrise gold, and burgundy red.
Pros
- Appearance: Dimension: 158.1 x 73.8 x 8.5 mm
Weight 189 g
The phone is IP68 dust and water resistant. The design of S9 Plus is quite similar to that of Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S7. Galaxy S9 Plus contains glass on the front and rear and retains the curved display edges. The fingerprint sensor is in the right position, just below the camera module. The rear-mounted sensor of the duo also works fine. The screen contains a better oleophobic coating that resists finger smudges much better than Note8. So if you are a little careful, you can continue using the phone without a display protector. - Display: 6.2” Quad HD+ Super AMOLED (2960 x 1440) 529 ppi.
When it comes to display, the white appear much closer to the neutral, and the colours and contrast are superb. You can really increase or decrease the brightness of the screen. The user will have the option to choose from Adaptive Display (widest colour gamut), Photo Mode (Adobe RGB), Cinema Mode (DCI-P3), and Basic Mode (sRGB). Like other Samsung Galaxy versions, Galaxy S9 Plus also comes with a Bluelight filter, Video enhancer and other features. You will find new widgets in the Always On display. - Camera: Rear: 12 MP (f/1.5-2.4, 26mm, 1/2.55″, 1.4 µm, Dual Pixel PDAF) + 12MP (f/2.4, 52mm, 1/3.6″, 1 µm, AF)
Front: 8 MP (f/1.7, 25mm, 1/3.6″, 1.22 µm), AF
Galaxy S9 Plus is the first to come with F/1.5 aperture lens and you can shoot really slow motion videos at 960fps. The dual aperture enables you take professional snaps in daylight and the aperture will adjust to f/2.4 when there is no shortage of light. In darkness or low light, the aperture can be adjusted to f/1.5. It can also be changed to the pro mode. Compared to Galaxy S8, the latest model takes much better pictures. Even though Pixel 2 still rules the portrait mode, Galaxy S9 Plus has sharper edge detection features. - Performance & Software: 10nm 64-bit Octa-Core Processor *2.7GHz + 1.7GHz (Maximum Clock Speed, Performance Core + Efficiency Core)
6GB RAM; 64GB/256GB storage, hybrid SIM slot
Android 8.0 (Oreo)
It is a great advantage that Galaxy S9 Plus uses Android Oreo (with Project Treble support) as the base operating system. The phone can be upgraded to Android 9.0 (Pie). The Experience UI 9.0 also comes with some new features. Other than this, it sports Auto-rotate feature for the home screen. The user can also change the navigation bar colour. The fingerprint sensor responds much faster. The Face Unlock and Iris Scanner does not seem to be any different than previous Samsung flagships. You have the option to choose between 64GB and 256GB storage options. - Audio: The stereo speakers of Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus are 1.4 times louder than the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus. For more clarity the stereo speakers are tuned by AKG. They also support Dolby Atmos that will give you a 3D like audio experience. You can connect two Bluetooth devices to the S9 Plus to play audio through the two devices simultaneously. High AOP Mic reduces the noise distortions effectively when recording anything.
- Battery: 3500mAh
The battery life can last up to 94 hours when usingMP3 playback (AOD off). Video playback is up to 18 hours, Talk time is up to 25 hours and internet use (4G) is up to 15 hours. Adaptive fast charging is applicable for both wired and wireless chargers. It contains non-removable battery and on moderate use will give backup for the whole day. But, the mileage could have been a little better.
Cons
- Cost: Even though Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus is less costly than iPhone X, the cost is high enough. But if you are deciding to choose from iPhone X, Pixel 2XL and Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus then it is best to go for the last option.
- Bixby: Even though the Bixby has improved from the S8 versions, it still falls behind Google Assistant. Those who do not use Bixby may feel a little uncomfortable with the Bixby-centric button on the side of the Galaxy S9.
- AR Emoji: Frankly speaking, the AR Emoji on Galaxy S9 Plus is simply a little creepy. Even if the idea is good, the presentation fails at some point. The emoji are not so convincing and the choice is also a little limited.
- Intelligent Scan: The Intelligent Scan feature is quite good but you need to hold the phone high enough for a proper scan. Moreover, it is not so secure to make payments through Samsung Pay. You thus need to use your fingerprint.
The top selling features of the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus include the camera and Android 8.0 (Oreo) operating system.
