What is the latest news on NVIDIA – the popular inventor of the GPU, which is best known for creating various interactive graphics for mobile devices, workstations and laptops all over the world?
It’s has been quite some time since Nvidia introduced its latest graphic architecture for gaming. Pascal was the last architecture and successfully powered a number of things which include GTX 1080 and GTX 1080 Ti along with the entry level GTX 1050 and also GT 1030. Though, nothing has been officially announced, there are plenty of rumors which are going around. The official confirmation is awaited but at the moment, the speculations seem to be quite exciting!
The latest news is that the next generation Nvidia graphics cards are now arriving that will use the Turing architecture. The release date or the specifications or other important details are still under wraps and all that we have are speculations. Nvidia is quite tight-lipped about the launch and hasn’t yet disclosed the naming, leave alone other facts and specifications.
So, what can the users expect from the Nvidia graphics cards, which is utilising the Turing architecture. Here is a brief in terms of release date and the path travelled between Turing and Pascal.
Nvidia is quite secretive about the future GPU this time and the name too cannot be mentioned with confidence. If rumors are to be believed, this new launch can be named as GTX 1180 or GTX 2080, but as per the latest buzz, 1180 seems to win out and be declared as its official name. No one is quite sure about the codename, as these chips are an easy choice.
Nvidia is absolutely silent and is not revealing anything, but users are quite certain about a few things, which include the following:
- This next generation architecture is codenamed as Turing.
- The manufacturing process uses TSMC’s 12nm FinFET process.
- The first cards will not use HBM2 but shall use GDDR6 memory, mainly due to costs and other reasons.
- The power requirement is also going to be quite high as the process technology hasn’t changed much in the last few years.
What is the price?
There is a lot of uncertainty on price as well. In the present time, there is actually no shortage of graphic cards, due to increasing demand of cryptocurrency miners or memory supply. The GPU is currently selling at or much below the MSRP. As per the speculations, the price of Nvidia might be around $799 or more – price reductions might be expected in the future as well.
GTX 1180 – What the Users Expect:
So, what are the expectations from GTX 1180 – Well, the list is a long one! First and foremost, it is expected that the performance should be superior or better than the GPUs which are available. However, this doesn’t mean that the performance shall be insane at such an amazing low price. In fact, it is known that Nvidia has actually several paths, which help in delivering high level of performance. It is still unknown, which path shall be taken by 1180. Some options are mentioned below:
- Nvidia can easily go along with larger chips and additional cores.
- It is known that Turing shall be quite a similar rollout to Pascal. It is known that the first GTX 1180 cards will be launched this year, but they are not going to be a complete full-fat version of Turing.
- Intead, the GPUs will look quite similar to current GP102 and these are going to boost improved performance and better performance.
If speculations are to be believed, GTX 1180 will run on GDDR6 memory. This is usually backed by PCB with the use of GDDR6. It is yet to be known that if this is Turing-backed GTX 1180 or towards a Tesla card. No matter what it suggests, it is known that the next generation GPU’s are certainly going to be more powerful.
It will run at 200 watts and is manufactured with 12nm process. It is packed with 3,584 CUDA cores, with 224 textured mapping units and 16 GB of GDDR6 VRAM.
The Release Date:
So, when is the release date? Initially, it is known that the release date is late July, but currently, it is understood that it is not going to be released till mid-late August or in early September. It is definitely to be believed that GTX 1180 is coming out soon.
Lastly, if reports are to be believed it is known that Nvidia is actually well prepared for this next launch. Rumors suggest that more than a million Next-Gen GeForce Graphics cards are stockpiled and these are completely ready for the purpose of mass shipment to the gamers. It is quite evident that Nvidia intends to keep the release a top secret, for unknown reasons. Gamers need to wait patiently!
